Dana Bourgeois' passion for acoustic guitars was fostered by those coveted instruments built in the pre-war era. Bourgeois Guitars' mission as a company has always been to merge the love for vintage guitar tone and design with modern innovation and playability. This foundation can be heard and seen clearly in the Bourgeois L-DBO. Inspired by the classic guitars that emerged from the mid-west early in the last century, the Bourgeois L-DBO brings that distinctive sound that old-time and county-blues enthusiasts love into a new era. -

The Bourgeois Large Soundhole D incorporates many of the features that bluegrass flatpickers search for in those "Holy Grail" pre-war dreadnoughts. The enlarged soundhole, special rosette, custom pickguard and blank, bound 21-fret fingerboard capture the proper authentic aura for this specialty model. Dana has also incorporated the hallmarks of his own current designs, including Aged Tone torrefied top, braces and Aged Tone finish. The result is a more of a tribute than a replica, and Bourgeois feels that it makes the perfect bluegrass guitar. Many have remarked that these Large Soundhole Ds are louder and slightly more open than their standard dreadnoughts, while still maintaining their signature balance and clarity. These models have a strikingly "vintage" sound that is sure to thrill many a flatpicker dreaming of owning their own pre-war "bone".

To introduce the new Advanced Slope D, Bourgeois is offering a special limited edition of 12 guitars. It features Bourgeois's Aged-Tone Adirondack Spruce top, with Brazilian Rosewood back & sides, and a special inlay in the bridge wings. As always, all of the sunbursts are applied by Dana Bourgeois himself.
When Eric, (Our beloved leader) asked me to describe this guitar, I was quite frankly, intimidated. I open the case and I was stunned. How can mere words possibly do justice to this fine instrument? We have a new Bourgeois Slope D-Advanced Limited Edition. The top is Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce, back and sides are Brazilian Rosewood, (that's right, Brazilian), 14 frets clear of the body, Ebony peghead veneer, fingerboard is Guatemalan Rosewood, Waverly tuners, Sunburst finish on top, firestripe pickguard. I wonder if it sounds any good? Well, I'll be darned, it sounds phenomenal. Why am I not surprised? This is one of the best acoustic guitars we have had in a while. This guitar is stunning not only in looks but also tone, it's a work of art that will inspire future guitarists for many years.

Those guys at Bourgeois know about loud, wow, this guitar is loud! We are offering a new Bourgeois Slope D "The Standard" with an "Aged Tone" Adirondack spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. It's a fine, fine, super fine guitar. It really is the standard all guitars should be judged by. If you are familiar with late 40's early 50's Gibson J-50 and J-45 guitars, you'll know the sound I'm talking about, warm, rich, loud and succinctly brilliant.
Dana Bourgeois' passion for acoustic guitars was fostered by those coveted instruments built in the pre-war era. "The Standard" model was inspired by the classic designs that emerged from the midwestern United States at that time, but incorporates many elements of Dana's own design.
It starts with the striking Ziricote fretboard and bridge, beautiful in figure yet subtle enough to maintain the pre-war look. The single ring Ivoroid rosette and rectangular bridge hearken back to those old designs. Our contoured headstock was introduced with the L-DBO model, and fits the look perfectly!

Upgraded with what Dana Bourgeois called "Rare and Ultra Uber Figured Mahogany"
The Banjo Killer is a slope shouldered dreadnought with a premium bearclaw Sitka spruce top and figured mahogany back and sides. The guitar is modeled after Bryan Sutton’s famous Bourgeois dubbed the “Banjo Killer". The fingerboard and belly bridge are figured ziricote wood. The Tor-tis pickguard is handmade, and the bridge pins are ebony with abalone dots. The tuners are Nickel Waverly with ivoroid buttons. Here's what IBMA "Guitar Player of the Year" Bryan Sutton has to say about the guitar: "From the first time I played the Slope-D Bourgeois that would come to be known as the "Banjo Killer", I was amazed at the range of tone and volume the guitar could produce. The guitar always seems to be to able to handle any dynamic level of play. I can hear the guitar clearly in a loud jam session without feeling like I have to overplay and also enjoy a full and sustained tone when I want to play softly.” Dana Bourgeois has this to say: "The BK Slope D has a deep, broad tone. Through wood selection and voicing, we push it in the direction of a bigger bottom end, a "lush" top end, and greater volume, similar to the characteristics of Bryan's original Banjo Killer. When I first started making slope shouldered dreadnoughts, I went for something as different as possible from the balanced and focused sound of my standard. The Banjo Killer gets me back to that original idea."

"Un objeto de gran belleza" That's a beautiful Spanish phrase isn't it? It means, "An object of great beauty". I can't think of anything that describes this guitar more eloquently and accurately. Where do I begin? This stunning instrument is a work of art that also happens to be an incredible guitar. It has a wonderful tone thanks in part to the Aged Tone Adirondack Top. Of course, the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides doesn't hurt either. This is a presentation model, like the beautiful presentation grade guitars and banjos made by the great instrument makers in the early 1900's. Instruments that were designed to represent the penultimate of the maker's art. The Bourgeois L-DBO-Presentation is that and more. This is as good as it gets, my friends.
