The Orchestra Model is a greatly favored shape amongst Goodall's Traditional lineup. It features a smaller, more comfortable to hold body size. Its tone is extremely powerful in the bass and midrange, with an emphasis on a broad warmth without lacking treble. It features a custom, partially scalloped bracing pattern which produces a bit more 'boominess' in the bass and midrange. It is attractively arrayed with a herringbone marquetry rosette and top purfling, and a chevron marquetry backstrip. Preston Thompson Dreadnought models are all crafted to produce the tone and volume that the dreadnought guitar was originally designed to achieve. These are powerful instruments that, when needed, stand up to the volume of a mandolin, fiddle and banjo. They have the bass response that provides an almost full orchestral backing to vocals. Their mid-range response and bright trebles take flatpicking and lead playing to new levels of achievement.
These are traditional instruments and all models are based on the famous 1937 Herringbone Dreadnought, owned by the late, great Charles Sawtelle of the award winning bluegrass band, Hot Rize. All feature Red spruce (Adirondack) tops chosen for tap tone and stiffness, advanced X brace placement, hand graduated top thickness, pre-war hand carved scalloped braces, nitro-cellulose lacquer finishes and time tested design features such as dovetail neck joints. -

This is the classic dreadnought done the Collings way —extremely loud, powerful, balanced, and clear. The square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnought is the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar shape in the world, and while many builders make them, Collings brings unmatched tonal clarity and refinement to the big-bodied design. Its strong bass response makes it perfect for vocal accompaniment, while its articulate projection makes it a favorite of bluegrass flatpickers who need to cut through banjos and fiddles. -
