Salvaged from the ancient Koa forests of the Big Island of Hawaii, the Hawaiian Country Boy's Koa backs and sides sound as good as they look, offering a rich midrange and a touch of island warmth that will deepen over time. Dana Bourgeois has personally selected each old-growth Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top in this series. Chosen for their bright and responsive tap tones, each one was hand-voiced at Dana's small workshop in Maine.

  The Bourgeois HSV-D features extraordinary Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, showcasing a stunning palette of colors: from deep browns to reddish hues, with distinctive spider webbing and a striking sapwood center. The Brazilian Rosewood on this guitar has a unique provenance: it was acquired by Dana Bourgeois from the estate of the late Don Sharp, a legendary master luthier. Don Sharp, who tragically passed away in November 2021, was celebrated for his exquisite custom handmade acoustic guitars, including his renowned harp guitars valued between $8,000 and $12,000. His legacy of craftsmanship adds a rich historical significance to this exceptional instrument.

The Adirondack top, famous for its wide dynamic range, gives you crisp attack and sparkling trebles that shine whether you’re flatpicking or fingerpicking. An Adirondack Spruce top provides the ideal stiffness to weight ratio yielding you even more projection and sustain. Animal Protein Glue is used to adhere their very best selection of tone woods together, giving your guitar an extra kick of tonal perfection.

The Natural – a natural topped Mahogany box that packs some serious firepower. Pairing a natural Sitka Spruce soundboard with Honduran Mahogany back and sides, the natural harkens from a no-frills design approach to deliver a high performing short scale guitar perfect for vocal accompaniment.

  This Custom Build Banjo Killer is a standard square shouldered dreadnought with a premium bearclaw Sitka spruce top and figured mahogany back and sides. Square headstock shape. The bracing for this guitar is modeled after Bryan Sutton’s famous Bourgeois dubbed the “Banjo Killer". The fingerboard and belly bridge are figured ziricote wood. The Tor-tis pickguard is handmade, and the bridge pins are ebony with abalone dots. The tuners are Nickel Waverly with ivoroid buttons.
  Bryan Sutton has this to say: "From the first time I played the Slope-D Bourgeois that would come to be known as the "Banjo Killer", I was amazed at the range of tone and volume the guitar could produce. The guitar always seems to be to able to handle any dynamic level of play. I can hear the guitar clearly in a loud jam session without feeling like I have to overplay and also enjoy a full and sustained tone when I want to play softly.”
