Although it is an elaborate instrument, the carving is not purely decorative: the great rigidity of the bridge arms forms part of the bracing of the guitar's body: Peña's system is quite unlike that of any other Spanish maker in its sheer complexity. He uses both Torres-style fan struts and flat cross-bracing on his soundboards to create a grid. He preferred red cedar tops for their sound and stability. The whole instrument is finished in traditional Spanish style which is French polished with small cloth pads and an alcohol-based varnish called goma laca. 669 scale length with 52mm nut width.
It shows overall light cosmetic wear. Play wear on the top, little bumps here and there...the most noticeable is a scratch below the bridge at the high E string. The frets are in perfect condition. The Brazilian Rosewood shows no signs of splits or cracks. The top is free of any splits or cracks as well. Comes with a newer hardshell case as well as a copy of "The Classical Guitar Book" which dedicates two pages to Jerinimo Peña Fernandez, and features a photo spread of this actual instrument.
