This is an extremely rare and exceptional Washburn B100, made in Japan in 1990. I have been the original owner since day one. At the time, I was a Washburn dealer and picked up this bass during a visit to their headquarters just outside of Chicago. Out of all the instruments I saw that day, this one stood out. It was the best looking, best playing, and best sounding bass in the building.

Details

The B100 appeared in Washburn's 1989 catalog and price list, but was no longer listed by 1990, making this one of the very last examples produced. Most likely ordered in 1989 and completed in 1990. It was their flagship model, built in very limited numbers. According to my Washburn rep at the time, fewer than 100 were ever made. The original retail price in 1989 was $2,199.90, which is the equivalent of over $5,800 today when adjusted for inflation.

This particular instrument is a showcase of premium craftsmanship and materials. It features a solid flame maple body with incredibly deep figuring that looks stunning in person, a 3-piece maple neck-through-body construction for superior sustain and resonance, and a Macassar ebony fingerboard. Tonally versatile thanks to its PJ pickup configuration and active electronics, offering a wide palette from fat lows to crisp, articulate highs. The electronics work perfectly. It also includes a Gotoh bridge and black hardware. The upper register is easily accessible thanks to the Stephen’s Extended Cutaway—with 26 frets that provides unmatched access and playability in the highest frets.
Despite its all-maple build, this bass is shockingly lightweight at just 7 lbs 14 oz. Very light for any bass, let alone one with neck-through construction. The frets are perfect and show zero wear. I only played it a few times after buying it (I am mainly a guitar player), and it has been stored in its original hardshell case ever since. The original warranty papers and truss rod tool is included.

You will almost never see one of these come up for sale, especially with known history, original case, and in collector-grade condition. This is a true piece of boutique-era Washburn history and an incredible player's instrument.
