Description

Details

The guitar is a good solid condition throughout, no cracks or splits. It shows overall cosmetic wear with scuffs, scratches, knocks and dings. The pickguard is lifting on one edge. The action is high but playable for a bluegrass picker - .150" at the 12th fret of the low E string to .120" at the high E string. The saddle is low, so a neck reset is recommended. Neck sets are generally easy on with a bolt-on guitar; Mossman was amongst the first to recognize the need for future resets and built his guitars with bolt on necks, so the procedure is on the whole pain free. There is an old Cortez pickup attached to the bridge plate that is not working. This guitar is expertly crafted and finished to a level that easily matches, if not exceeds, its contemporaries. The Spruce top is tight and straight grained and the Indian rosewood is a nicely book matched piece. This is a fantastic sounding guitar that has opened up beautifully over the past 46 years. Nice, strong bass fundamental, great projection, extremely loud and punchy. Well balanced treble and bass frequencies with a sweetness to the overtones that suit a flat pick or fingers equally.

Comes with the original hardshell case with a replacement leather handle. Also, two rattlesnake rattles inside the guitar.
